Cattle may be marketed either on a grid or sold live. Use of the system does not change packer relationships and does not impose special requirements on the packer. The system does not require information to be sent to or returned from the packer and does not require any linking of individual carcass information. Carcass performance data by lot, if available, can be used by the system for comparative analysis and to improve future performance.
Multiple packer grids along with cattle performance projections can be evaluated by the system to not only propose a grid returning the best value for a given pen of cattle, but to propose alternate marketing dates optimized for the net value of each pen of cattle considering a balance of live cattle prices, premiums & discounts, and differential feeding costs. We call this feature “Pen Value Optimization”.
